RNDIS Dail-up

Remote NDIS (RNDIS) eliminates the need for hardware vendors to write NDIS miniport device drivers for network devices attached to the USB bus. Remote NDIS does this by defining a bus-independent set of messages and a description of how this set of messages operates over the USB bus. Because this remote NDIS interface is standardized, a set of host drivers can support any number of network devices attached to the USB bus. This greatly reduces the development burden for device manufacturers, improves the overall stability of the system since no new drivers are required, and improves the end-user experience:

  • Install the SIM card and antenna on the device, connect the USB to the computer, and supply power.
  • Install the USB driver.
  • Open the serial port assistant, find the serial port number corresponding to the AT serial port, and send:
AT+CPSI? //Query whether to register on the network
  • If successfully registered on the network, SIM7600X sends AT command to enable USB dial-up Internet access:
at+Cusbpidswitch=9011,1,1
  • SIM820X sends AT command to enable USB dial-up Internet access:
at+cusbcfg=usbid,1e0e,9011
  • If the sending is successful, OK will be returned, and Dongle will restart automatically.
  • Watching the device manager reveals some more unrecognized devices, such as RNDIS (with exclamation mark):
  • Right-click RNDIS, search the device software prompt window, and select "Browse My Computer". Choose to choose Network Adapter from the list of devices.
  • Select Microsoft Corporation in the manufacturer list of the network adapter window, and then select "Remote NDIS Compatible Device" in the list on the right, that is, the remote NDIS compatible device.
  • Click Next and wait for the installation to finish, the RNDIS Kitl device will be installed successfully. At this point, the dial-up function setting is completed, and you can see that the PC can access the Internet through the Dongle.
  • If you cannot access the Internet, please set it to obtain IP automatically.
