2.6 Connecting to a PDI target

Note: Programmer or Emulator does NOT power the target board which should be powered from an additional power supply. VCC and GND are used for detecting the level of the target board.

The default connector of JTAGICE XPII is JTAG Connector. Connect the JTAGICE XPII to a PDI target using the "10-wire multicolour custom connector cable" shipped with the JTAGICE XPII (as shown in the figure below).

1. Standard PDI header pinout

PDI Physical is a 2-pin interface providing a bi-directional half-duplex synchronous communication with the target device.

2. Custom PDI header

When connecting to a target that does not have the standard 6-pin header, you can use the "10-wire multicolour custom connector cable" between the JTAGICE XPII 10-pin JTAG connector and the target board. In this case, please note that:

  1. 4 key connections are required: PDI_DATA, PDI_CLK, VCC, GND
  2. DO NOT reverse the VCC and GND, which would do great damage to the JTAGICE XPII
  3. PDI_DATA, PDI_CLK requires pull-up resistors while long connecting
