2.3 Connecting to an ISP target

The default connector of JTAGICE XPII is JTAG Connector.

Note: Programmer or Emulator does NOT power the target board which should be powered from an additional power supply. VCC and GND are used for detecting the level of the target board.

1. Standard 10-pin ISP header pinout

The "red X" on GND means the target board could connect to GND or just NOT CONNECT.

You should connect the JTAGICE XPII to a 10-pin ISP target using the "10-pin (JTAG) to 10-pin (SPI) probe adapter cable" shown in the figure below, which is shipped with the JTAGICE XPII.

2. Standard 6-pin ISP header pinout

You should connect the JTAGICE XPII to a 6-pin ISP target using the "10-pin (JTAG) to 6-pin (SPI) probe adapter cable" shown in the figure below, which is shipped with the JTAGICE XPII.

3. Custom ISP header

A 10-wire multicolour custom connector cable will be shipped with the JTAGICE XPII for connecting to the custom ISP target. In this case, please note that:

  1. 6 key connections are required: MISO, MOSI, SCK, RESET, VCC, GND
  2. DO NOT reverse the VCC and GND, which would do great damage to the JTAGICE XPII
  3. MISO MOSI SCK requires pull-up resistors while long connecting
